Some people have a hard time embracing that fact. They feel like the world is against them and that they’re not good enough. For the majority of us, this is a very common scenario. We feel like our lives are so hard, we’re not deserving of the things we want. We see it as a negative thing. However, it’s not.
In fact, the more accepted we are of our true self, the more likely we are to achieve our goals. It goes back to the saying, “acceptance is the key to happiness.” The more open we are with our true selves, the less likely we are to be swayed by external pressures.
I think most of us have experienced something like this. I definitely have. I’ve been accepted into the college of my choice. I’ve finally found the person I am destined to be with, my dream job, my partner. I’m so happy. And then I see it get taken away from me. It’s like I’ve hit rock bottom.
I’ve been accepted into a college and Ive had to say goodbye. Ive been accepted into the academy and Ive had to say goodbye. Ive been accepted into the musical and Ive had to say goodbye. This is why I love to write. Ive never been accepted before. Its so hard to give up. It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
In 2013, we released a study of the student body of American Musical and Dramatic Academy (a four-year program for music, acting, and theater that prepares students for careers in the entertainment industry) to the media. We polled nearly 900 people and found that only about one in four of us had ever been accepted by the academy’s Music Department. We also reported that only about one in nine had ever been accepted by the Drama Department. The study was in response to that fact.
The Music Department is generally regarded as one of the best in the country and is currently ranked as the 3rd best. However, only about one in four of our students are officially enrolled in the Music Department. As a result, the Music Department is one of the few departments that is relatively underrepresented among the applicants. The Drama Department is an extremely important department that is a relatively small percentage of the applicants.
The drama department accepts about one in four students. The Music department accepts about one in eight students. But they’re both departments where there is a lot of talent. And that talent is important as it’s our goal to produce the best music of the year.
I have a lot of respect for the Music Department, and I know a lot of other people who also have respect for the Music Department. But Ive met a lot of people who say, “I have nothing against the Music Department. It really is one of the most important departments in the school.” And they go on to complain about the Drama department instead of the Music department.
I guess that is a good thing because most of the drama students are pretty mediocre at first. Now, some of them can become great, but a lot of them are really mediocre at first. They end up being pretty good because they learn how to improve. In fact, the main reason the Drama Department has such a bad track record is because they keep on adding more and more things that they don’t need.
The Drama Department has been around for a long time. In the old days, the best music instructors were those who could make their students better than they were before. Today, we have more “drama” instructors than we do “music” instructors so the Drama Department is even less effective.
